Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) in Manhattan, NYC & Long Island
Just like the rest of your face, your eyelids also suffer as a result of the aging process. Lax skin and bits of fat cause the eyelids to sag. Board-certified plastic surgeon, Craig Baldenhofer, MD, offers blepharoplasty for men and women in Manhattan, New York City and Long Island.
What is Blepharoplasty?
The delicate design of your upper and lower eyelids make them prone to sagging with even the smallest changes. As elastin levels decrease, the weight of the fat in the eyelids stretches the skin. Over time, the upper eyelids cover a portion of the eyeball. This may interfere with your vision, and your eyes will get tired sooner. In the lower lids, sagging exposes the vulnerable pink tissue, increasing your risk for dust in the eye and infections. Blepharoplasty is a simple cosmetic surgery that removes the excess fat and loose skin to give your eyes a more alert appearance.
What are the Benefits of Eyelid Surgery?
Dr. Baldenhofer recommends blepharoplasty to correct:
- Bags under the eyes
- Fine lines and wrinkles under the eyes
- Puffiness in the upper eyelids
- Folds of skin that change the contours of the eyelids
Eyelid surgery will not improve dark circles under the eyes.
Who is a Good Candidate for Blepharoplasty?
Dr. Baldenhofer may recommend eyelid surgery on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both eyelids. You should understand how the surgery will change your appearance and what cannot be achieved with blepharoplasty. You may benefit from combining your eyelid surgery with a brow lift. Patients with certain abnormalities of the muscles in the eyelids should not have blepharoplasty.
What Should I Expect from Eyelid Surgery?
Your eyelid surgery is performed by Dr. Baldenhofer in our certified in-house surgical suite. For upper eyelid surgery, the incision is made in the natural crease. Dr. Baldenhofer removes excess fat and pulls the skin taut over the area. He trims any excess and closes the incision.
The incision for lower eyelid surgery is placed inside the lower lash line. Excess fat is removed, and the skin is pulled taut. The excess is trimmed, and the incisions are closed with sutures.
Your vision will be limited until you are fully healed, so we recommend that you have a friend or family member stay with you.
